Virtual Runner's Clinic Series - The Art of Foam Rolling

Welcome to Piedmont's Virtual Orthopaedic Clinic for Runners!

For the next four weeks, we will be posting videos to answer some of the most common orthopaedic questions we get from runners. Submit your own questions here, and one of our physicians or athletic trainers will post the answer on this website and our Facebook Page.

In this clip, Rebecca Ewing, a certified athletic trainer at Piedmont Orthopaedic Complex, will be demonstrating how to properly use a foam roller. Foam rolling is used by professional athletes, coaches and therapists to release tension in a tight muscle and relieve pain. Rebecca is going to show you how to apply foam rolling techniques in your own home on your own time. Foam Rolling involves applying pressure to a specific point on your body to aid in the recovery of muscles and assist in returning them to normal function.

On a tight budget? You can apply these same techniques using regular household items. Rebecca will show you some of the best options in our next clip of the foam rolling series.
